In The Martin Scorsese Film Collection, arriving on February 8th from MGM Home Entertainment, some of Scorsese’s most seminal works are brought together for the first time, offering a decade-spanning, street-level view of America. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Raging Bull, starring Academy AwardÒ winners Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, the DVD gift set features a new two-disc Collector’s Edition DVD of Raging Bull, one of Scorsese’s most acclaimed works. Also included in the DVD collection is the Special Edition DVD debut of New York, New York, starring De Niro and OscarÒ winner Liza Minnelli; The Last Waltz Special Edition, a landmark final concert performance of The Band; and Boxcar Bertha, starring Barbara Hershey and David Carradine. The Martin Scorsese Film Collection will be available for the suggested retail price of $49.96.

This esteemed collection features comprehensive all-new bonus materials. The Raging Bull two-disc Collector’s Edition includes new interviews with Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, Cathy Moriarty, boxer/author Jake LaMotta and producer Irwin Winkler, as well as newsreel footage of the real LaMotta, a shot-by-shot comparison of De Niro and LaMotta in the ring, five documentaries and more. The New York, New York Special Edition DVD shines with never-before-seen alternate takes, deleted scenes, an introduction by Scorsese and an audio commentary by Scorsese and film critic Carrie Rickey. Featuring hours of additional materials, The Last Waltz Special Edition DVD includes two behind-the-scenes featurettes, two audio commentaries, and performances by The Band, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and Neil Young. Boxcar Bertha features the original theatrical trailer.

The Raging Bull two-disc Collector’s Edition will also be available on its own for the suggested retail price of $29.98. In addition, the standard Raging Bull DVD, featuring a new widescreen transfer and the original theatrical trailer, the New York, New York Special Edition, The Last Waltz Special Edition and Boxcar Bertha are available as single discs for the suggested retail price of $14.95 each.

Raging Bull
The film tells the life story of one of the greats of boxing, Jake La Motta (Robert De Niro), his struggle to become the middleweight champion of the world and then his physical decline to cabaret entertainer after retirement.  Broadly dealing with his marriage to Vickie (Cathy Moriarty), and his relationship with his brother/manager, Joey (Joe Pesci), this is a no-punches-pulled look at boxing and life in the 1940s and 1950s.

Boxcar Bertha
Free-spirited Bertha (Barbara Hershey) is a small-time crook with a “love ‘em and leave ‘em” philosophy… until she falls hard for union man and Robin-Hood-of-the-rails Big Bill Shelly (David Carradine). Stealing from the rich and giving to the workers, Bertha and Bill soon become the most notorious train robbers in the South. But as their crimes grow more brazen, the law grows more ruthless, and the duo discovers – too late – that their lifetime of larceny may have bought them a one-way ticket to a deadly destination.
